Stand Up Paddle (SUP) is back to the Azores, for the second edition of the São Jorge 2 Pico SUP channel crossing on the 11th of July, a open water race between the islands of São Jorge and Pico, with a distance of 19 Km .
The São Jorge 2 Pico – SUP Channel Crossing is an event approved by the Portuguese Surfing Federation (FPS) with a prize money of 3,000 euros, the largest in monetary terms awarded until now to a SUP event in Portugal. The event is also recognized by Stand Up Paddle Athletes Association (SUPAA) and the International Organization of Stand Up Paddle (IOSUP).
Like in the first edition is expected a strong participation of international athletes, having been confirmed the presence of the Spanish Pepe Oltra Sans, who said he is coming to defend the winner title. Registration already opened at www.saojorge2pico.com. The race is co-organized by TITAN and National Portuguese SUP Academy (ANSUPP), sponsored by the Regional Government of the Azores, Azores Tourism and SATA. As well as the support of the authorities of the municipalities of Velas and São Roque do Pico, naval clubs of Velas and São Roque do Pico, São Jorge Garden Hotel, Autoatlantis rent a car, Yacht Charter Azorean Dream and Portuguese Navy.
